What Is Maximalist Interior Design?
In our last blog we told you all about minimalistic interior design, in this blog post we’re going to tell you about maximalist Interior design.
What is Maximalist Interior Design?
As the name might suggest maximalist is an aesthetic of excess which can be summarised by the saying “more is more.” Think bigger, bolder, brighter and that’s what maximalism is. With maximalism it has never been easier to show off all your favourite things and with proper thought and care you can make it look fabulous. The problem with maximalism is that it is not for everyone because trying to add everything you want into a room can be difficult and can often end in the room looking cluttered and messy.

Elements of Maximalism
When going for a maximalist interior you want to load up on colour, the bolder the better. You should only add the colours that you absolutely love. The more art, the better. If you can fill your walls with art, do it but don’t worry about the price of the art if you like the cheap stuff get it or if you want to splash some cash go for it. You want to be comfortable in your own home so only get things if you absolutely love them. When going for maximalism you should not aim for perfection instead aim for personal preference. There's no wrong way to create a maximalist space because you are simply adding what you love to your home. The ultimate goal is to create a space truly unique to you.

What do People do Wrong?
People tend to get maximalism wrong when they start buying anything they can find to fill gaps. It’s all well and good buying anything to fill a gap but eventually you’ll get sick of what you buy because you’ll love everything else in the room but you’ll end up hating the items you buy as space fillers.
Another big problem is thinking about what other people think. If you are looking to impress other people then maximalism isn’t for you. You should not care what other people think, the whole point of maximalism is to make a space unique to you, filled with things that you love and you should rightfully show them off without feeling embarrassed.
The Difference Between Maximalism and Minimalism
Maximalism and minimalism are polar opposites. Minimalistic designs tend to be quite introverted when it comes to colour schemes and designs. A typical minimalistic design looks at everything on a whole making sure everything matches, the colour scheme can be quite bland with monochromatic colour schemes. Whereas maximalism takes a more extroverted approach and focuses on individuality of items so there tends to be lots of colour clashes and items that wouldn’t typically go together.
